Vicky Kaushal
Vicky Kaushal (born 16 May 1988) is an Indian actor who works in Hindi films. He is known for his performances across different genres and is considered one of the leading actors in modern Bollywood.[1]
Early Life and Background
Vicky Kaushal was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a Punjabi Hindu family. His father, Sham Kaushal, is an action director, and his mother, Veena Kaushal, is a homemaker.
He completed his schooling in Mumbai and later earned a degree in electrical engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology. During his college years, he realized that he was not interested in a corporate job and decided to pursue acting.[2]
He trained at Kishore Namit Kapoor’s acting institute and worked in theatre with groups like Aranya and Motley Productions. During this time, he performed backstage roles and participated in acting workshops.
Acting Career
Vicky Kaushal began his film career as an assistant director on Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). He later appeared in small roles before getting his first lead role in Masaan (2015), which received critical acclaim.[3]
He gained attention with films like Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) and achieved major success in 2018 with Raazi and Sanju. His performance in Sanju earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
In 2019, he starred in Uri: The Surgical Strike, which became a huge commercial success and won him the National Film Award for Best Actor.
He continued to receive praise for Sardar Udham (2021), where he played freedom fighter Udham Singh. The performance earned him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.
In 2023, he appeared in successful films like Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Sam Bahadur, and Dunki. He won another Filmfare Award for his supporting role in Dunki.
In 2025, he starred in Chhaava, which became his highest-grossing film and further strengthened his position as a leading actor.
