Manoj Kumar Tiwari (born 1 February 1971) is an Indian politician, singer, and actor who serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Delhi. He is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and formerly served as the Delhi BJP President from 2016 to 2020.
Before entering politics, Manoj Tiwari was one of the most popular figures in Bhojpuri cinema and music, often referred to as the “megastar of Bhojpuri films.” His transition from entertainment to politics marked a significant shift, and he has since emerged as one of Delhi’s influential political voices.[1]
Early Life and Education
Manoj Tiwari was born on 1 February 1971 in Kabir Chaura, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He was raised in a middle-class family by his parents, Chandradev Tiwari and Lalita Devi. His ancestral roots trace back to Atarwalia village in the Kaimur district of Bihar.
Tiwari completed his early education in Varanasi and earned a Master’s degree in Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). During his university days, he actively participated in cultural programs and sports, nurturing his interest in music and stage performance.[2]
Film and Music Career
Manoj Tiwari began his entertainment career as a Bhojpuri singer, gaining early fame for his soulful voice and folk-style compositions. His transition into acting came with the 2003 Bhojpuri blockbuster Sasura Bada Paisawala – a film that became one of the highest-grossing Bhojpuri movies of all time.
He followed this success with a string of hit films including:

Political Career
Manoj Tiwari entered politics in 2009, contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Gorakhpur as a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate. He lost the election to Yogi Adityanath of the BJP.
In 2014, he officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested from the North East Delhi constituency. Tiwari won by a margin of over 1.44 lakh votes, marking the beginning of his political rise.
In 2016, he was appointed as the President of BJP Delhi Unit. Under his leadership, the BJP won a historic victory in the 2017 MCD Elections, securing all three municipal corporations in Delhi.
He retained his Lok Sabha seat in both 2019 and 2024, defeating prominent opponents including Sheila Dikshit (Congress) and Kanhaiya Kumar (Congress) by large margins.
In 2025, he was honored with the Sansad Ratna Award for his exemplary parliamentary performance.
Personal Life
Manoj Tiwari married Rani Tiwari in 1999, and the couple has a daughter, Rhiti. They divorced in 2012.
In 2020, Tiwari married Surbhi Tiwari, and the couple has two daughters, born in 2020 and 2022.
Beyond politics and entertainment, he is known for his love of sports, devotional music, and social outreach, often organizing cultural programs to promote Bhojpuri heritage.
