Olivia Isabel Rodrigo (born February 20, 2003) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She began her career as a child actor before gaining popularity through Disney television series. She later transitioned to music and became one of the most successful artists of her generation.

Rodrigo rose to global fame with her debut album Sour (2021), which produced chart-topping singles including Drivers License and Good 4 U. Her second album Guts (2023) also debuted at number one and included the hit single Vampire. Her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, is scheduled for release in 2026.[1]

Early life

Olivia Rodrigo was born on February 20, 2003, in Murrieta, California. She grew up in Temecula and is an only child. Her mother worked as a teacher and her father is a family therapist.

She has Filipino ancestry from her father’s side and German-Irish heritage from her mother. Rodrigo was interested in music from a young age and took vocal and piano lessons. She later learned guitar and started writing songs as a teenager, inspired by artists like Taylor Swift.[2]

She attended Lisa J. Mails Elementary School and later moved to Los Angeles for acting work, completing her education through homeschooling.

Career

2015–2019: Acting beginnings

Rodrigo made her acting debut in the film An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success (2015). She gained recognition for her role as Paige Olvera in the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark (2016–2019).

In 2019, she starred as Nini Salazar-Roberts in the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. She also wrote and performed the song All I Want for the show.[3]

2020–2022: Breakthrough with Sour

In 2020, Rodrigo signed with Geffen Records and released her debut single Drivers License in 2021. The song became a global hit and topped the US Billboard Hot 100.

Her debut album Sour (2021) received critical acclaim and commercial success. It included hit songs such as Deja Vu and Good 4 U. The album established her as a leading pop artist.
