Harsh Gujral (born 17 September 1993) is an Indian stand-up comedian and entertainer, best known for his observational humor and crowd interaction–based performances. A former software engineer, Gujral transitioned into comedy after working in the corporate IT sector and has since become one of the most popular live comedians in India.
Early life and background
Harsh Gujral was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, into a Punjabi family. His father, B. L. Gujral, is a lawyer, and his mother, Savita Gujral, is a homemaker. He grew up with three sisters in a close-knit household.[1]
He completed his schooling at St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Kanpur, and later earned a Bachelor of Technology degree from Inderprastha Engineering College, Uttar Pradesh. During his student years, he was known for his humorous personality rather than academic distinction.[2]
Corporate career
After graduating, Gujral began his professional career as a database engineer in Noida. He worked with companies such as RateGain, HCL, IBM and TCS. His initial salary was reported to be around ₹13,000 per month.[3]
While working in the IT sector, he was posted in London for a year. Exposure to live stand-up comedy shows abroad sparked his interest in performing comedy.
Entry into stand-up comedy
Upon returning to India, Gujral hosted a corporate event for his workplace, where his performance received positive feedback. Encouraged by the response, he began performing at open-mic nights, particularly at Canvas Laugh Club.
He soon gained attention for his spontaneous crowd work, a style that relies heavily on live interaction rather than scripted material. This approach later became his signature.[4]
